Senior Center News

Two senior centers in Anne Arundel County will run their winter programs of basic beading. These classes started the week of Oct 6th and will run until the week of Dec 10th. We will make various items of different beading skill levels and learn about marketing and selling your items.

The two senior centers that are involved are the "Pasadena Center in Pasadena ":http://www.aacounty.org/Aging/activeSeniors/pasadena.cfm and the South County Senior Center in Edgewater.

Come join us for classes at Anne Arundel County Recs & Parks. Starting in June I will be teaching all types of classes but focusing mainly on recycle classes. All classes will be held at the North County Rec site which is located in Brooklyn.

Quiet Waters Park

I will have a table at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis for Earth Day. I will bring all my recycled jewelry and have an exhibit where you can make paper beads to take home. All my items will be for sale if you’re interested, check back for new items as I’m constantly updating the site.

Classes

Currently classes are being taught at Coventry Cottage in Gambrills on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10:00. I have been teaching the Trash to Treasures class but if you have something else you’re interested in please let me know.

Watch for the Anne Arundel Recreations and Parks summer program guide because there will be classes starting in May. Here are some of the possible course selections. Trash to Treasures-you bring an old piece of jewelry that you no longer like and we redo it into earrings, a bracelet or a possibly a new necklace. Mother/daughter bracelet class-I will provide a design. A Beading Challenge-everyone gets the same beads and we see all the different creations that can be made. A recycle jewelry class which will be an extended class of possibly three sessions. We will make paper beads out of newspaper, beads out of magazines and whatever household items we can find. Everything will then be made into jewelry or art decorations.

May 10th there is a mother/daughter beading class at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum in Annapolis. The class starts at 10:00 and will last 2 hours.

Teaching at the senior centers and Anne Arundel Community College in the fall. I have two classes available for the Annapolis Senior Center in March and the O’Malley Center in April.

Gift Card Jewelry

Here’s some pictures of the gift card jewelry that I have started to make, thanks to all the businesses and aquaintances that have helped me collect these gift cards. The snowflake earrings are made with gift cards from Blockbuster and the bracelet is made from gift cards from Caribou Coffee.

Trash to Treasures

Trash to Treasures is my first class that I am promoting. I have classes booked at Coventry Cottage in Gambrills, the O’Malley Senior Center in Odenton and the Annapolis Senior Center in of course Annapolis.

Here’s the first jewelry I purchased for my Trash To Treasures class. I bought a bunch of things at an antique dealer in Severna Park and you’ll have to check back to see what I have created.

Allie's birthday party

My very first birthday party. My niece Allie turned 7 years old and she invited her friends over to make jewelry. Only 5 gurls showed up so my 10 year old nephew Chris jumped in and made a necklace for his mom. The theme of the party revolved around the jewelry making. Everything including the goodies were packaged into a chinese food container and the first thing that they got to do was decorate the container so they would know whose was whose. The project included sticky foam paper that was cut into strips and rolled and made into large beads and then strung on eleastic cord. The girls rolled and designed for about 40 minutes and then the were off to eat cupcakes and play with toys.

Rings are so much fun to make and wear. They are relatively simple to make and don’t require a large amount of beads or crystal. They are the perfect accessory when you don’t feel like wearing a necklace or bracelet

Homecoming Necklace

Here’s the necklace that I worked on for days for my daughter’s homecoming dance. And in the end it ended up being much easier than I thought it was going to be. It’s the first time that I made a necklace with wire. It just wouldn’t keep it’s form when made with monofilament. She wore a blue and black halter top dress and the necklace is made with multiple shade of blues, purples and greys, all in Swarovski crystals. Let me know what you think and also if I should try to reproduce it other colors to sell.

Christmas Bracelet

Christmas is right around the corner and here is how I started my holiday beading. This bracelet is made with a stitch called the broken arrow. It is a series of size 6 beads and embellished with Delicas to make a uniformed arrow design. If you prefer this bracelet can be made thicker and can made to order with the colors of your choice.
